    "content": "<html><p><em>Jeremy:</em> Yesterday was the 40th anniversary of <em>Metroid</em>'s debut in Japan. If you think I'm going to let a big round number associated with one of the foundational works of my entire brain pass without comment, you are mistaken! I'm going to talk about the game (and some others) tonight at Long Island Retro Gaming Expo for good measure! But you can get a jump here as we talk about... well, OK, as we <em>almost</em> talk about <em>Metroid</em>. We talk about it some. But I invited <em>certain people</em> into this recording well aware that they would seize on the history of <em>Metroid</em> topic as an opportunity to go really deep into the weeds about its predecessors and inspirations. You could say it all went according to keikaku... if only you knew that \"keikaku\" means \"plan.\"</p><p>There will, of course, be more to this conversation. <em>Metroid</em> was inspired by many games and inspired many games in turn, and we've yet to explore the latter part of that equation.
