For one thing, it’s rare enough that a game makes me laugh that I’ve previously written at least one obnoxious column about how comedy in games doesn’t work and isn’t funny. This one definitely works, or it works for me at any rate, and when I played I found myself frequently standing around to listen to the dialogue. There’s a recurring gag involving podcasts that had me and the friends I was streaming the game to laughing at loud.

I think the key is that it’s extremely honest as games go, a very clear labour of love. It’s also very plainly inspired by classics such as Banjo-Kazooie and more recent titles in a classic gaming lineage such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land. This isn’t something that Teeto tries to bury, as you’ll very quickly see when you play it (which you should). Listen to the episode and you’ll see exactly what I mean about the game being honest. I can’t think of a better way to describe it. You get games described as “family” games, and Teeto’s development gave a more appropriate new definition to that concept.

Mostly, it was a pleasure talking with Mitch Duncan and I do hope our paths will cross again; I will certainly be paying close attention to Eat Pant Games.
